1995
First smokehouse
The first smokehouse was a 180 m2 house at Skipatangi 35 in Akureyri. It was down in the harbour area in Akureyri in Oddeyri.

The goal of the company is research and development and sale of fresh,
frozen and smoked seafood.

Óseyri
The year 1999 Hnýfil´s owners purchased a 480 m2 house in Óseyri 22 and moved into it around 2000. The house was then 15 years old, well built and good for food processing. It had housed Íslandlax smokehouse before.
Retail
The products that have been in the market the past years have been smoked char, salmon, smoked whale, smoked haddock and cod.
Since then a lot of research and development work has been done and a few new products have seen the light of day such as our new pastrami salmon.
2021
In the year 2021 Nora Seafood bought Hnýfill.
The company is still run according to the same good values originally instilled from the founders of the company. A new CEO Einar Örn Aðalsteinsson and a few new staff members have been added to the team. The goal is to be one of the top contenders in high quality smoked seafood in Icelandic retail market.
Víðir Ingþórsson is the board leader
